Wes Overvold is a cinematographer and director who believes the best stories aren’t just told—they’re felt. For him, filmmaking is about more than just great visuals; it’s about finding real moments, real people, and the emotion that ties it all together.
He got his start at Savannah Arts Academy in coastal Georgia, where he studied film communications, then refined his craft at Appalachian State University. Since then, his work has taken him all over—from the Rockies to Alaska to the remote villages of Nepal, where he directed his first feature documentary, Helambu.
Along the way, he’s worked with production companies like Implement Productions, Grizzly Creek Films, Wild Vision Films, Foss Media, and Outlaw Partners, with projects featured by PBS Nature, Smithsonian Channel, and Vox Media.
At the core of everything he does is a love for stories about resilience—whether it’s people pushing their limits, landscapes that leave you in awe, or cultures fighting to keep their traditions alive. His goal is always the same: to create films that connect people to something real.
